Bull City Legacy downs Huntersville HoopForLyfe 128-119

Durham, N.C. -- The Bull City Legacy played host to Huntersville HoopForLyfe at Walltown Recreational Center in Durham Saturday afternoon.  HoopForLyfe made the 2hour 20minute trip to Durham, and they were ready to play ball. Taking advantage of their strength in the post, Jamal Durham (WSSU) led the way for the visiting team, as Huntersville held a 28-23 lead after the first quarter.  

Bull City assistant coach Andre McCollum coach made several adjustments and guard Tim Plummer (FSU) took over from there.  The Legacy had a 40-point second quarter, and took a 63-55 lead into halftime.  Not to be outdone, HoopForLyfe scored 34-third quarter points, led my Jamal Durham's (WSSU) 23 points.  Mark Carson, (RIT) chipped in with 20 points and 6 rebounds, as HoopForLyfe led 89-88 after three quarters.  

Bull City had another 40-point outburst in the fourth quarter to preserve the 8-point victory. Legacy guard Tim Plummer finished just two assist shy of a triple double.  Plummer's stat line was as follows: 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 8 assists.  Ian Gregory, (St. Thomas Univ.) had a strong game as well with, 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.  Jamario Clayton (Univ. Hawaii Hilo) poured in 23 points, while J'Mell Walters (NCCU) had a double double with 14 points and 10 assists.  

With the win, Bull City improves to 5-2 in the TRBL, while HoopForLyfe falls to 6-2.  These two teams will face each other again March 8th, in Hunterville.

Bull City Legacy Run Past Triangle Run N' Gun

Durham - Head Coach Marvin "Rat" Reed and the Bull City Legacy played host to Triangle Run N' Gun at Walltown Recreational Center in Durham.  Reed was coaching his  first game as the head man for the Legacy; his team gave him a great welcoming gift.  

Triangle Run N' Gun came out on fire, led by guards Milan Prodanovic, (Iona College) and Ian Hathaway.  The duo's early play gave the Run N' Gun a 23-22 lead after one quarter. Prodanovic finished the game with 25 points and 9 assists, while Hathaway chipped in with 23 points.  The Legacy would own the second quarter, but it was another "Ian" who provided the spark.  

Bull City out scored the Run N' Gun 47-20 in the second quarter to turn a 1-point deficit, into a 26-point halftime lead.

Legacy forward Ian Gregory (St. Thomas Univ.) made 14 of his 17 field goal attempts, including 5-7 from 3-point range, to finish with a game- high 35 points, in a 143-115 Bull City Victory.  

Legacy guard Tim Plummer (Fayetteville State) also had a great game, finishing 3 assists shy of a triple-double. Plummer scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dishes out 7 assists. Jamario Clayton (LIU Post/ Univ. Hawaii Hilo) poured in 25 points for Bull City who improve to (4-2) on the season. Next up for the Legacy is a home game vs. Huntersville HoopForLyfe, Feb. 28th. Triangle Run N' Gun falls to (1-7).  They'll hit the road Feb. 21st against the Robenson County Showstoppers. 

  

Bull City Legacy welcomes new coaching staff

Durham, N.C. -- The Bull City Legacy, of the Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL), announced the resignation of head coach Fred Whitaker; effective immediately.   Whitaker coached Bull City last season, as well as the first 5 games of this season. "We thank Coach Fred and his staff for all their commitment and sacrifices, managing the team over the last 2 years, and we welcome Coach Marvin "Rat" Reed and his staff to build on our successes moving forward," says Legacy GM Umar T. Muhammad. The Legacy are off to a 3-2 start this season in the Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL). 

The Legacy is proud to announce the hiring of Marvin "Rat" Reed as their new head coach. Reed, a Durham native, brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach to Bull City. Reed is a Hillside High School and North Carolina Central University Alum; During Reeds' playing days he helped NCCU win the 1989 Division II national title. Reed previously coached at Mount Zion High School (Durham, N.C.), and is currently the head man at Faith Assembly in Durham.  Reed brings his passion for the city of Durham to the coaching box.  

"I'm happy to bring my basketball experience and expertise to the Bull City Legacy," said Reed.  The Legacy play their home games at Walltown Recreational Center in Durham. "We want to have the place packed.  Make opponents fear coming in here to play."  

Coach Reed will be assisted by another Durham native, Andre McCollum.  McCollum is also a graduate of Hillside High School (Durham N.C.), before playing collegiately at Cal State Bakersfield, and in various professional leagues.  "Andre will be a key component in the teams success moving forward," says Reed.

Bull City Legacy can handle the Heat, cool visiting High Point

Durham -     The Bull City Legacy welcomed the High Point Heat to Walltown Recreational Center for a mid-afternoon match up in the Tobacco Road Basketball league. The Legacy got off to a great start, but let an eight point lead slip away, and found themselves trailing after the first quarter. High Point was on fire from behind the arc, connecting on five 3-pointers in the first quarter, to take a 35-32 lead.  

There was a scary moment in the second quarter.  Legacy guard J'mell Walters (NCCU) took a hard fall after a layup and suffered a mild concussion. The Legacy used Walters injury as a rallying cry.  Bull City started to "heat" up - no pun intended - and out scored High Point by 17 points in the second quarter, to lead 71-57 at the half. 

Raymond McKeithen (Greenville State) pumped in 23 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Tim Plummer (Fayetteville State) recorded a double double, 15 points 10 rebounds, and Bull City had seven players score in double figures. The result, a 127-114 Legacy victory.  

High Point connected on sixteen 3-pointers, led by Jarrett Johnson (Anderson University), who had a game-high 25 points.  Eugene Vassallo chipped in with 21 points, and Kennard Moore (Southeast Missouri State) drained five 3-pointers to finish with 19 points for the Heat.  

With the win Bull City improves to 3-2 in the Tobacco Road Basketball League (trblproball.com)
