Bull City gets past High Point

Durham, NC -- On a day when the sports world stood still for Mayweather/Pacquiao; the Bull City Legacy played host to the High Point Heat in a first round TRBL matchup.  This game was highly contested throughout, as both teams left it all on the court at Walltown Recreational Center.  A one point High Point halftime lead, (63-62) didn't hold up as Bull City came away with a 133-128 victory.  

Kennard Moore (Marshalltown CC) and Ramel Phillips (Old Westbury) were sensational  for the visiting Heat.  Moore had a game-high 40 points; while Phillips chipped in with 32.  Bull City countered with  two thirty point scorers of their own.  Big man Brian Streeter (Citadel) pounded High Point down low to the tune of 31 points and 7 rebounds.  Point guard J'Mell Walters nearly recorded a triple double. The former NCCU Eagle scored a team-high 31 points, adding 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. 

The High Point Heat finish their season at 1-10, while the Bulll City Legacy improve to 8-4.  Up next for the Legacy; a  showdown with their arch rival Cary Invasion, who had a first round bye as the too seed in the east.  The Invasion and Legacy tip-off 2pm today at the Herbert Young Center.

Bull City Legacy pounds Robeson County Showstoppers

April 11, 2015 Durham -- The Bull City Legacy played host to the Robeson County Showstoppers at Walltown Recreational Center. The TRBL playoffs are fastly approaching, and these two teams showed playoff intensity throughout.  

Robeson County found themselves trailing 26-35 after the first quarter, but a pair of UNC-Pembroke products would bring the Showstoppers back to within three points (59-62) by halftime. Ricardo Samuel and Shamell Brackett put Robenson County on their backs the entire game.  Samuel finished with a game-high 29 points -- while Brackett wasn't far behind, scoring 27 points -- but Bull City proved to be to much on this day.  

The Bull City Legacy placed 8 players in double figures, led by Jamario Clayton's (Univ Hawaii Hilo) 27 points and 6 assists. Jerome Carr (Laurinburg Institute) chipped in with 21 points 4 rebounds 4assits, while Ian Gregory (St. Thomas Univ.) scored 17 points and dished out 6assists.  The star of the game was reserve guard Antonio Battle.  Battle came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points, on 8/8 field goal attempts, helping Bull City to blow out Robeson County, 161-123.  

With the win, Bull City end their regular season at (7-4).  The loss drops Robeson County to (4-10).  The TRBL playoffs get started May 2nd.

Cary Invasion trounce Bull City Legacy 143-103

Durham, N.C. -- One of the mosthighly  anticipated matchup's of the year took place Saturday in the Tobacco Road Basketball League.  The (6-3) Bull City Legacy played host to arch rival Cary Invasion (10-1) at Walltown Recreational Center; In beautiful Durham, N.C.  

Like a pay-per-view prizefight, Bull City and Cary traded haymakers, in a 26-26 first quarter tie.  Cary began it's separation in the second quarter behind the hot shooting of guard Corey Evans (NCCU ).  Cary exploded to score 86 second half points, and the former Northern Durham High School star was the catalyst. Evans was money playing in his home town, scoring a game-high 42 points, and dishing out 6 assists.  Paul Wright (Mountain State) chipped in with 25 points and 6 rebounds for the Invasion.  

After the first quarter, Bull City seemed to sleepwalk through the remainder of the game. One bright spot for the Legacy was the play of big man Brian Streeter (Citadel).  Streeter scored a season-high 19pts in the loss; while forward Ian Gregory (Saint Thomas, FL) scored 17 points.  Both Desmond Bunn (Shaw) and Tim Plummer (Fayetteville State) scored 16 points for the Legacy; who after the loss, drop to (6-4) on the season.  Cary improves to (11-1) after Saturday's victory.  

Cary will host the Raleigh Revolt April 4th.  Bull City is next in action April the 11th when they welcome the Robeson County Showstoppers to Durham.

Bull City Legacy suppress Raleigh Revolt 138-124

March 14, 2015  Durham. N.C.-- The Bull City Legacy and the Raleigh Revolt squared off Saturday afternoon in a very entertaining Tobacco Road Basketball League matchup.  

Raleigh's Charles Gamble (Barton College) was a five-alarm blaze thoughout, helping the Revolt build a 12-point advantage after one quarter.  The Legacy were without several of their post players for the game, meaning the Legacy guards would have to step up in a major way.  

J'Mell Walters (NCCU), Jamario Clayton,  (Univ. Hawaii, Hilo) and Desmond Bunn (Shaw) all had impressive outings for Bull City; allowing the Legacy to tie the score 63-63, heading into halftime.  

Bull City had a 4-point edge after three quarters, but Raleigh's Charles Gamble would try to will the Revolt to a win.  Gamble finished with a game-high 40 points-- while Jared Grady (Delaware St.) chipped in with 23 points-- but that wasn't enough.

J'Mell Walters scored 23 points and dished out 9 assists for the Legacy.    Desmond Bunn poured in 27 points, Jamario Clayton went for 24 points, and Ian Gregory (St. Thomas Univ.) had a team-high 28 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists; in a 138-124 Bull City Victory.  

With the win Bull City improves to 6-3 on the season, while Raleigh drops to 5-3.  Raleigh will host Charlotte Elite on March, 22nd and Bull City will host arch rival Cary Invasion on March 28th.

Bull City Legacy downs Huntersville HoopForLyfe 128-119

Durham, N.C. -- The Bull City Legacy played host to Huntersville HoopForLyfe at Walltown Recreational Center in Durham Saturday afternoon.  HoopForLyfe made the 2hour 20minute trip to Durham, and they were ready to play ball. Taking advantage of their strength in the post, Jamal Durham (WSSU) led the way for the visiting team, as Huntersville held a 28-23 lead after the first quarter.  

Bull City assistant coach Andre McCollum coach made several adjustments and guard Tim Plummer (FSU) took over from there.  The Legacy had a 40-point second quarter, and took a 63-55 lead into halftime.  Not to be outdone, HoopForLyfe scored 34-third quarter points, led my Jamal Durham's (WSSU) 23 points.  Mark Carson, (RIT) chipped in with 20 points and 6 rebounds, as HoopForLyfe led 89-88 after three quarters.  

Bull City had another 40-point outburst in the fourth quarter to preserve the 8-point victory. Legacy guard Tim Plummer finished just two assist shy of a triple double.  Plummer's stat line was as follows: 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 8 assists.  Ian Gregory, (St. Thomas Univ.) had a strong game as well with, 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.  Jamario Clayton (Univ. Hawaii Hilo) poured in 23 points, while J'Mell Walters (NCCU) had a double double with 14 points and 10 assists.  

With the win, Bull City improves to 5-2 in the TRBL, while HoopForLyfe falls to 6-2.  These two teams will face each other again March 8th, in Hunterville.
